Total distance: 25km Total ascent: 960m Current location: N 43′18.8 E 020′45.7, 1508 above sea level. Snow up to: waist
We got an early start this morning, with three of the guys taking the bus down to our starting point and Rob and I driving the Niva - Rob worried about a dodgy knee. We loaded up the Lada with far too much stuff. Having met up in Brzece, at about 1000m above sea level and set about putting our bikes together.
We had decided to set out for the other side of Kopaonik and get a head start for the real beginning tomorrow. Rob was worried about his knee, so he, Dusan and Marko set off by car for the first rendezvous, while Robi, Zoli and I headed up by bike, first a few km via asphalt (acquiring a small dog on the way), then turning along a forest path (the wrong one initially) - a really tough one as it turned out!
Having made the meeting place, just, at around 1800m Rob decided join us for the next leg. First we strayed…
And then things got really tricky!
We are now camped on the wild side of the mountain, eating boiled rice (the menu was a bit limited) and will now have to think about what to do about the Snow Problem. We pushed more than rode at least a quarter of the way. We may have to abandon some of our more ambitious planned trails he we want to do more than a couple of dozen km a day! More tomorrow! Oh, and the dog - it’s still with us, I think it’s joining the Trek whether we like it or not.

Hi Mark!! Sladja emailed me this site. This website it great!! I just got a new bike but there’s no where to go around here that’s as crazy as what you guys are on. Greetings to Zoli as well. I don’t think I know anyone else you’re with.
Blessings!
Enjoying your ride blog! I love really ‘good ideas’ like this that look great in the pub and turn out to be a lot more than you bargained for waist deep in snow…
Ha, cheers mate! Yeah, though I reckon if you didn’t have those moments of lunacy you would never end up doing anything in life! And the snow wasn’t THAT bad, though we couldn’t have taken more than a few hours of it!
Thanks for tuning in!
