Well, there is not much going on this time of year, but it was a national holiday today, so I thought I would take the opportunity to go for a ride, and hopefully show you a little bit of the area around Novi Sad, specifically Fruska gora, Novi Sad’s “mountain” (see the page about that!)
If you head out towards the village of Bukovac, around 10km out from Novi Sad, you are pretty quickly in this kind of country (left). I guess we are pretty priviledged really - if you want to cycle in the country in Belgrade, say, you have an hour or so to cycle before you even get to any country areas!
The “mountain” is up ahead, and pretty soon you are into forest and a long uphill section.
Soon started to feel my complete lack of winter fitness! Coupled with the fact it has been raining and the track was a bit muddy… I think I pushed the bike more than I rode it.
This picture on the right is actually part of a video sequence, but I haven’t managed to figure out yet how to pack it down into a reasonable size. Also, I was trying to find a way to fix my camera so it didn’t lurch wildly around. As things stand, this video clip would give you a headache anyway!
I realised I was not going to get far like this, so I headed up to a ridge I saw, which took me back out into the open and a lovely looong downhill section, which I also tried and failed to film. At the bottom I realised I was somewhere I had definitely never been before, among all these vineyards.
This pic was taken right down the bottom, so you can see where I had come from.
Nothing special as rides go, but it was great just to get out and hear that special sound of the tyres crunching on gravel! Don’t you just love it!
