Sorry, the Google Maps plugin stopped working at some point - until I figure out what happened, the route won’t display on the map and there might be other side-effects too…
Well, I don’t know exactly at what point this happened, but it’s something we’ve been waiting for for ages. Novi Sad was until recently only covered by very low-resolution satellite images on Google Earth and Google Maps. Now, finally, we have higher resolution images to play with!
I intend to make good use of these on my site, but just for starters, so you can see how this can be used, here is an example, where you can see the 80 km route of the Fruska gora Fanatic MTB Marathon, plotted on the satellite map. You can move around and zoom in and out. There is a strange anomaly on the left, a whole swathe with a rather bizarre colour scheme, but I guess that was the best they had. Obviously this also does not help you visualise the terrain in terms of elevations (it’s a nightmare!), but you could plot this same route in Google Earth and see that.
Hope this doesn’t put you off doing this ride!
Anyway, this is great, and I hope to be making lots more use of Google Maps from now on on the site, for ride information, but also for touristy stuff on the pages about Novi Sad (see left menu). Stay tuned!
